There are moments in life when the pain is so deep, the grief so heavy, or the confusion so overwhelming that words simply don’t come. I’ve been there.
After losing my brother and my mother, I tried to pray — but often all I could do was cry. My heart was aching, but my mouth was silent. I felt guilty, wondering if God was disappointed in me.
But what I’ve learned is this: God hears even the prayers we cannot speak.
Romans 8:26 says, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
This verse set me free. It reminded me that God is not waiting for perfect sentences or long speeches. He listens to the language of tears, sighs, and even silence.
Sometimes the most powerful prayer is not “right words” but a surrendered heart.
✨ Pray with Scripture
Open the Bible and let God’s words become your prayer. For example:
Even if all you can do is whisper a verse, it’s enough.
✨ Pray with Silence
Sit in stillness and simply invite God in: “Lord, I’m here. Please be with me.” He already knows your heart.
✨ Pray with Tears
Your tears are not wasted. Psalm 56:8 says God keeps track of every one. Let them flow, knowing He sees and understands.
✨ Pray with Music
Sometimes a worship song says what we cannot. Play it, sing along, or just let it wash over you.
If you are in a season where you can’t find words, don’t force them. Trust that God hears the unspoken cries of your heart. Prayer is less about what you say and more about who you are with.
He is with you — in silence, in sighs, in tears.
“Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.” — Isaiah 65:24
When I had no words, God still heard me. And He will listen to you, too.
That’s part of why I wrote Father Never Leaves Me — to remind you that even in silence, God is near. He understands your heart better than you do.
